Abstract

There are currently over 200 zoonoses that represent a threat to human health and animal well-being. This
scenario and the multiplicity of factors that contribute to the prevalence and incidence of these diseases
highlight the need to prioritize and monitor them within the actions of Public Health. Monitoring is one of
epidemiology’s fundamental tasks, which is carried out by way of different strategies and has a vast
regulatory framework. In the province, these activities are carried out by the Epidemiology Jurisdiction
Directorate of the Ministry of Health. Veterinarians plays an important role in this strategy in their offices,
since when a notifiable event is diagnosed, in addition to providing patient care, they must notify the event,
thus contributing information toward drawing up public policies for prevention and control.
