The article emphasizes the significance of research in dentistry, serving not only to improve public health
and patient care but also as a catalyst for innovation and continuous development. It assesses the current
state of dental research in Latin America, showcasing both accomplishments and challenges while
highlighting the need for a multidisciplinary approach in training researchers. Additionally, the article
discusses the need for government investment and scientific output, along with barriers that hinder
researchers and impede the advancement of the field. It stresses the importance of professionals adapting
to technological advancements and an ever-evolving environment, which presents new challenges in both
training and practice. Despite an increase in scientific production, this growth is limited by structural and
cultural factors that must be addressed to create a more supportive environment for dental research.
